designers symbiotic relationships

symbiosis [sim-bee-oh-seez]noun, plural.
A
relationship in which each person is dependent upon and receives reinforcement, whether beneficial or detrimental, from the other.

Creatives,

Let's take a trip down memory lane to art school. We feel our curiosity is unstoppable and our ideas are invincible as we individually create with enthusiasm. With excited minds ready to be molded, we gather around for critiques as our ideas bounce off of one another. It is then, we recognize the competition around us.

It took time to realize this creative competition bettered ourselves and our ideas. We had symbiotic relationships with our fellow designers where we were creative enemies and friends.

This relationship with always be there. It is impossible to propel ourselves creatively without our fellow creatives. We are each others' competition as well as inspiration.

We rejoice in the others' creative accomplishments; yet feel failure when that accomplishment is not our own. We feel the excitement of our big ideas; but look to what others do. We compete for clients and jobs; but wouldn't have projects without that push.

Without each other, we wouldn't move forward and create the standards for the visual world around us. Together we make ideas fly (and dive). We learn as a whole from what we create individually. We can not function without one another.

THIS my friends, is creative symbiosis.
